About My Chicken Wire World!
I am an award winning chicken wire Artist/Educator based out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. My chicken wire art is made in a very distinctive style and I specialize in making sculptures crafted out of Chicken wire. I've been called "The Chicken Wire Whisperer" and everything I make is hand-crafted by me. Galvanized Chicken Wire is my preferred medium to create sculptures and my art is all One of a Kind! Unlike other sculpture, these are impossible to cast or duplicate. This fact guarantees your sculpture will be the only one of its kind. Ever!!
Though creating Chicken wire sculptures is my primary artform, making my large Earth Friendly Tree Art gives me great joy. Made entirely from reclaimed industrial materials, I sometimes like to enhance these beautiful statement pieces with found objects like rocks and driftwood. All these materials are collected, (sometimes by bushwacking to retrieve the perfect specimens) by myself and my husband on camping and hiking trips in our beautiful stomping grounds of Alberta, Canada
Since 2015, I've had the honor to participate in some amazing Markets and Artisan events in Canada. Some of which have been heavily juried. These invitations have included the esteemed Reynolds Alberta Museum Metal Art Show 9 yrs. in a row, and a number of Galleries and Art events. I also curate my travelling Solo/Partners in HeArt Shows with my husband/photographer louisouimetphotography.ca
* In the Spring of 2025, I was commissioned to make 6 Life size chicken wire sculptures of a series of gardeners performing a variety of garden tasks and activities. These were personally installed by me in the Ball Horticulture Gardens in West Chicago, Illinois. *
The cities of -Spruce Grove, Ab. -Edson, Ab. -Devon, Ab and -Whitecourt, Ab have purchased my chicken wire sculptures as part of their Public Art Collections. The University of Alberta Botanical Gardens in Parkland County commissioned me for 6 Chicken Wire Art Sculptures for their Private Collection to be featured in the 2022 Luminaria Festival. The Edmonton Valley Zoo has commissioned me for a couple large chicken wire installations for their Zoominescence Light Festival for 2023 & 2024 seasons. My chicken wire sculpture "Love Each Otter" has been retained by the Zoo and is displayed as a photo opportunity every year from November-to Valentines Day.
I hold Exhibiting Membership with the Federation of Canadian Artists National and Edmonton branches, Sculptors Association of Alberta, Society of Canadian Artists and have been shortlisted as 1 of 5 finalists nominated for the prestigious Anne and Eldon Foote Award for 2022 & 2023. Previously I sat on the board for 8yrs. for a non-profit in support of Alberta Artists/Artisans. I have been instrumental in creating the Hand-up Bursary for new and emerging artists.
My background as an Educational Assistant lends itself to my teaching classes in Alberta and BC. I teach most of my chicken wire garden art classes in my quaint little home studio in Edmonton. But I do travel to teach as well so let's talk if you're interested!
(My classes are listed in my Class Calendar and I periodically send out a newsletter with this info so sign up if you think you might be interested in taking a class!)
I have art in 13 countries including the prefecture of Yubetsu, Japan, which was gifted one of my Bonsai as a Sister City Twinning gift with the city of Whitecourt, AB. This was such an incredible honor!!
I have designed, developed and hold registered copyright to the kits and classes you see listed here on my website.
I've been invited by Indigo/Chapters Canada to teach my Wire Art classes as part of a pilot project in Western Canada. These classes were well received by Indigo customers and was seriously cool to be asked to participate in this limited time , experimental project!!
Whether you are from here or live outside of Canada and would like to collect or commission a piece of my art, simply contact me and we can make arrangements to ship your Art to you!
Thank you so much for taking the time to pop by!
Cheers,
Laura
